Richard Osman’s House of Games Board Game Overview

Quick Rules Summary

The game comes with 7 categories of question, each unique in their own way. One involves answering two questions but both answers rhyme, another has you answer a question and to spell the answer…

You randomly use 5 categories per game.

How do you win?

After enough questions have been answered, the game ends and the player with the most points wins.

Main Mechanisms

Simple, straight-forward Q&A.

Theme

The categories are all from the TV. What is nice, is that a card holder is used to hold the category selector. This look as it appears on the screen behind Richard in the game show studio.

Setup & Rulebook

Shuffle the cards into decks, that’s pretty much the setup.

The rulebook is OK. It explains each game fairly well.

Components & Artwork

The cards are OK.

The buzzer is a lot of fun.

Ease of Teaching

The game is easy to teach, especially if they know the show so they understand the different rounds.

If they don’t know it, you can just explain each round as and when.

Similar Games

Pick a quiz game! Mr Listers Quiz Shootout is fun. There’s also games Like QI or even Pointless if you’re a huge Richard Osman fan.

Richard Osman’s House of Games Board Game Review

Positives

The variety of rounds keeps the game interesting.

Negatives

There is not enough questions, especially for the price.

The game requires a quizmaster who is not in the game.

Some rounds you need to be in pairs, others you do not which can make the player count quite awkward.

“Answer Smash” needs players to both see a picture and read a question. It’s tiny and slid into the card holder to hide the answer. It was impossible for 4 of us to read at one go.

Summary

Good for one or two sessions at Christmas. For value, buy the books for a quarter of the price and ten times the questions.
