Nine Worlds Board Game First Impressions

Nine Worlds is an action point allowance, area control game.

This is a quick video overview.

The nine worlds of Norse and Anglo-Germanic myth comprise the battleground for this area control game.

This is a brief overview of the rules then I give my thoughts on it.

Nine Worlds Update: July 2018

So despite enjoying this play and my initial first play at UKGE 2016 I never played it again.

It’s a really good game and I suggest you give it a go, but there are other games. I have El Grande, I love that game and don’t play it anywhere near enough. They’re area control games, not in the same way but it is the same base mechanisms.

Speaking of which Blood Rage, a Norse mythology area control game is MUCH easier to get played for obvious reasons. I’m not a huge fan of Blood Rage but it’s another game I would play over this due to the production values.

But you know, sliding the beads around is fun. Getting into position to activate abilities is fun. Removing your opponent’s beads to gain control is fun.

The game works well. It’s a very simple area control game. You have these Nine Worlds and you have your beads. Go for it. racking action points can be difficult if you forget to use your tracker. But usually, everyone is counting on you 🙂

So overall I do like it. It’s just the problem is it’s a competitive niche. Area control games are rampant and this will never float to the top of the ‘To Play’ list.

So give it a go, I’m sure you’ll like it.
