Gameday First Play – Welcome to the Dungeon
Welcome to the Dungeon.
We’ve got fun n games.
Welcome to the Dungeon is a push-your-luck dungeon delve in which 2-4 players take turns essentially daring each other to go into a dungeon with less equipment than they start off with while filling the dungeon with monsters.
You win this game by winning 2 rounds first. To win a round, you need to take the adventurer into the Dungeon and survive.
The round starts with one of four Adventurers, fully equipped and ready to go into the Dungeon.
Each of the bits of equipment has an ability which effects a certain monster or adds HP.
On your turn you either draw a monster card or pass. If you pass you’re out for the round.
If you draw a card, you have two options…
1 – Put the card into the Dungeon face down. This monster will need to be defeated.
2 – Remove the card from the Dungeon face down, then remove a piece of equipment from the Adventurer from the game.
If you’re the last player remaining in the round, you have to take the Adventurer into the Dungeon with the equipment they have left.
You then flip over the Monster cards in the Dungeon one at a time, fighting them off. The equipment the adventurer has will let you defeat some monsters automatically. The ‘Holy Grail’ in the image above lets you deafest Monsters with an even number strength for example.
If you can’t defeat a monster they deal damage to you equal to their level and you need to try and have at least 1 HP left after getting through the monster deck to win. If you do you get a Merit card and two of these gives you the victory.
If you lose, you flip over your reference card to the red side…
…lose while on this side and you’re out. The icons on the card also show how many copies of each level of Monster are in the deck.
This is a very fun game with lots of choices to make.
Every player knows SOME of the monsters in the dungeon and you have an idea of which equipment you will need to survive it.
When deciding which equipment to remove, you can’t just take away the powerful stuff as each player will pass and leave you with it. But, at the same time, you can’t pass with the Adventurer over powered and help other players get a VP.
It’s a very simple push your luck game where you can screw over your opponents.
One I’m glad I own and look forward to playing more.
