Gameday First Play – Fuse

Posted on by Jesta

A real timed co-op dice game…

Who could reFUSE that?

Intruders have made their way onto your ship, and their goal is total destruction! More than twenty bombs have been detected on-board, and the countdown has begun. Your elite Bomb Defusal Team (BDT) has been called upon to neutralize the threat. Does your team have what it takes to work through the intricacies of the bombs and defuse them all in time?

You have X bomb cards depending on the number of players in a deck and each player gets 2 more with 5 from the top of the deck laid out in the middle of the table.

You start the timer, there is a nice free app for this…

Fuse Timer

The start player picks a dice out the bag for each player and rolls them. Then each player picks a die to put on one of their bomb cards…

The cards may require a certain number or colour (or both) now, or you may need to carefully pick as you’ll need to build up to something later.

Obviously being timed, and using my phone (and camera) as the timer I couldn’t take any pictures so I went onto BGG to get some bomb pic examples.

Fuse Card 1

This one requires the colour of each adjacent die to be different. You don’t have to start a card left to right or anything, you can go in any order. Just as long as the criteria is met, the bomb can be defused.

Fuse Tower Card

This one, with the arrow DOES have to be played in order. You’re building a tower blue die on the bottom, black on top of that and red on top. Easy… except if you knock over ANY of the dice in a tower you have to put them all in the bag. 🙂

Once everyone has picked and placed a die, the next player takes the bag and this is repeated. If a bomb is completed, the card is discarded, the dice on it returned to the bag and you take a new one from the middle and that is replaced.

The card put in the middle may be one of the several Fuse cards added to the deck. These Fuse cards show either a colour or a number. If one of these is revealed each player must return one of their dice on a bomb to the bag that matches the Fuse card, if possible.

Also, if there is a die in the middle of the table that no one can take, each player returns a die to the bag so choose carefully! …and tactically. (but quickly)

So play continues until the last card in the middle is taken and you win, or time runes out and you lose.

Fuse High Scores

The app saves high scores which I’m always a fan of.

This was fun and frantic and we were close to winning but we spent a bit of time working out some symbols on the card.

It’s like a co-op Blueprints against the clock.

I’m looking forward to playing it more, getting the symbols and card requirements down, ramping up the difficulty and beating that first score 🙂
