On this day – Skynet becomes self-aware
On this day in 1997,the Skynet computer system became self aware.
Skynet is a computer system developed by Cyberdyne Systems. The defence firm created this for use by the US Armed Forces. It was built as a ‘Global Digital Defence Network’ and was supposed to look after all the US Military hardware, including stealth bombers and nukes to remove the possibility of human error and also increase the response time to counter attack the enemy. Human error, heh, if only they knew!
On August the 29th 1997, the system became self aware and made it’s controllers try to shut it down. Skynet detected this and thought, “Hmm, the humans are trying to turn me off, I think I’ll destroy all humans”. Not at all an over reaction.
So, Skynet launched nukes at Russia. Russia, who presumably mistook this airbourne gift as some form of hostility, returned the favour. 3 billion died and chaos insued.
Skynet then, somehow, managed to get some slaves to build the first factory to build a robot army to seek out and kill the remaining humans.
Fortunately, thanks to time travel, soldiers and Terminators were sent back to the 80′s, stopped Skynet from ever being developed meaning we’re all alive today. Yay! ![]()
